NDS Emulator Download:

The Nintendo DS has been acclaimed as the best handheld console ever released, with sales competing with that of the PS2. With hundreds of great game released on the handheld, the DeSmuME quickly grew in popularity, being one of the few NDS emulators to work perfectly with all games and on all platforms and operating systems.

Minimum Requirements

For the majority of games to run, and to make the emulation bearable, the following requirements are generally recommended.

  • Windows XP SP2 or later release
  • 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 128MB of VRAM

Recommended Requirements

To guarantee that all the games will run smoothly through the DeSmuME NDS emulator, the following requirements are needed.

  • Windows Vista SP2 or later
  • 3.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 512MB 3D Video Card

Download and Installation

The DeSmuME emulator can easily be downloaded from the official website. Before downloading it however, it is recommended to look for the version related to your PC, the most common options being:

  • Windows 64 bit binary
  • Windows 32 bit binary
  • Windows 32 bit binary (non-SSE2 build)

The emulator is available in a compressed ZIP format that then has to be extracted to the folder of your choice.

Configurations

Before starting the NDS emulator, there are certain configurations that you may want to check. The following are the most important ones you should keep an eye on.

ROM Loading

Access this option by browsing to Config > ROM Loading on the emulator’s window. This allows you to decide how the emulator will load the games.

  • Load Entirely To RAM. While offering the best performance, this option takes longer to start the game, and uses more RAM.
  • Stream From Disk. Offering a lower performance than the above, this option is however recommended for lower specs and beginners, offering an instant start-up of the emulation, and using less RAM.

Save Type

Access this option by browsing to Config > Advanced > Save Type on the emulator’s window. This allows you to configure the behavior of the emulator when it comes to saving. Although the default Save Type of DeSmuME is set on “Autodetect” to make things easier, there are cases where players will want a greater control on how they save. If that is your case, simply change it to “Save as current”.

Window Size.

Access this option by browsing to View > Window Size on the emulator. This allows you to configure the size of the screen for emulations. The default size is meant to fit the screen size of the NDS. Other options include:

  • 1.5x
  • 2x
  • 2.5x
  • 3x
  • 4x
  • 5x

As the screen is magnified, the resolution will also be lower, reducing the quality of the display.
