Pro systems emulator
The Atari 7800 emulator was one of the last Atari’s to come out.
Part of a dying breed of gaming it had a very small stint in the gaming industry. However, some of its games were good ones and still remain classics today. So, if you want to test your metal against that of classic gaming gold then this is the right place for you as I will teach you just how to do it.
This is basically a tutorial that will help you to set up the pro systems emulator for windows. Using this emulator you will be able to play all the Atari 7800 games you want so without further ado lets get started!!
Step 1: Getting the necessary files
Download the zip file with the emulator here; https://home.comcast.net/~gscottstanton/bin/ProSystem_1_3.zip
Next, create a folder called ProSys and extract the downloaded zip file into it. Now create a subfolder in the ProSys folder and name it games (this is where you will put all the Atari roms).
Download the roms of the games you want to play from http://www.atariage.com/system_items.html?SystemID=7800&ItemTypeID=ROM.
Be sure to save the files in the pre-made games folder.
Step 2: Setting up the emulator
Navigate to your ProSys folder and double click the pro systems.exe file to launch the emulator. The emulator should pp up in a few seconds and it should look something like this.
Next, we need to configure the buttons you will use to actually play the game, to do this go to options è Input è Controller 1
As you can see above, all you need to do is use the drop down boxes to assign the controls to your liking.
You can also go to options è Display to change the display settings to best match your pc’s requirements. Also, you can navigate to options è sound once there you can mut, change the volume and the latency of the emulator.
Note: You should fiddle around with more of the settings just to get a feel for the emulator. That way, you will also be able to find the perfect match of settings for your pc.
Step 3: Playing the games
Now, the wait is finally over. We have downloaded and prepared and are now ready to put the emulator into action so go to file
Open and navigate to the ‘games’ folder to pick the game you want to play. Then, double the rom and presto. Now just relax and enjoy the game
In order to save and load states just go to èSave or file è Load
